Donate the gift of play this Christmas
This Christmas Croydon’s only NHS charity is offering people the opportunity to give the gift of play that will last well beyond the festive season.
The charity, which supports Croydon Health Services NHS Trust, has launched its first virtual giving campaign which aims to raise £2,000 for its ‘power of play’ appeal by purchasing virtual presents. The appeal will fund playgrounds, therapeutic areas and resources for the Trust’s new children’s unit which opens in 2022.
Supporters are asked to make a donation in exchange for one of 40 colourful online ‘presents’ which have fallen from Santa’s sleigh. Personalised messages and photos can be added to the presents so gifts can also be made in memory of loved ones.
Sarah McLaggan, Head of Nursing for Children's Services, said:
“Presents purchased from our winter wonderland will fund play facilities that will last all year round for some of Croydon’s sickest children. Being in hospital and away from play is tough for children so bringing play to our youngest patients will really mean the world.
“We also know that many people are aware of the impact of gifts on the environment and want to reduce waste so this is a great way to both go green at Christmas and support Croydon’s young patients.”
The state of the art unit will provide integrated care for up to 52,000 young people in Croydon who require NHS care every year. The facility will bring together children’s wards alongside dedicated children’s critical care and children’s cancer facilities, so that for the first time ever care can be provided closer to home for even more of the borough’s sickest children.
