Croydon’s only dedicated NHS charity relaunches today

Croydon’s only dedicated NHS charity has relaunched today (14 February) with a reinvigorated brand and a pledge to continue to grow its support for the borough’s NHS staff and patients.

Supporting one of the Capital’s largest and most diverse boroughs, the renamed Croydon Health Charity will continue to help people of all ages, from all walks of life to have the best possible experience of NHS care during what can often be some of the most difficult times in their lives.

The launch kicked off with a celebration event at Croydon University Hospital, encouraging staff and the public to find out more and to make a donation towards Croydon Health Services, their local NHS Trust.

In the last two years alone, Croydon Health Charity has funded a number of major projects including the renovation of two staff rest areas and an inaugural wellbeing week for 4,000 NHS staff, to provide additional emotional support during the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Charity is also funding vital medical equipment including bladder scanners and toys, colouring books and musical equipment to support Dramatherapy for bereaved children.

And its largest appeal to date – the Power of Play Appeal - seeks to raise over £100,000 to fund playgrounds and play equipment within a new state of the art children’s care unit.

Matthew Kershaw, Chief Executive at Croydon Health Services NHS Trust and the borough’s Place-Based Leader for Health said:

“The support for Croydon’s NHS has gone from strength to strength over the past few years, largely thanks to an outpouring of community support during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We’re delighted to be relaunching the Trust’s charitable partner under the new Croydon Health Charity brand. We hope that, with greater profile and even greater awareness of our cause, Croydon’s local community will continue to support its local NHS and help us to deliver excellent care for our patients, and our staff, each and every day.”

Donations to the charity support the Trust to provide services and improved facilities over and above statutory NHS funding. Whether it’s a new rest area for staff or medical equipment, wellbeing resources, specialist training or recognition badges, it’s work is varied and responds directly to the needs of those giving and receiving medical care.

Christina Clynes, Head of Communications and Fundraising for Croydon Health Charity said:

“We’re delighted to be relaunching the charity. Celebrating the new branding, which encompasses a heart to highlight our care for Croydon, feels particularly fitting on Valentine’s Day and we’re hoping to encourage as many people to get involved.

“We’re committed to being here for Croydon and to supporting our local NHS with charitable projects that can make a real difference to our NHS heroes and patients who need us most.”
