About us
The Operating Theatre Suite provide surgical treatment for Gynaecology, Genito-urinary, Breast, ENT, Dental, Elective Orthopaedics, Trauma Orthopaedics, Emergency, Colo-rectal, General, Paediatric and Vascular specialities.
The department also provides an anaesthetic support service to other parts of the hospital when required e.g. Labour Ward theatres, Day Surgery Unit, Accident and Emergency, Community Dentals, X-Ray and wards.
The multi-disciplinary teams working in the suite provide all the three aspects of operative care - Anaesthetic, Theatre and Recovery nursing. Each aspect works together to provide a coherent working relationship, which ensures high levels of patient comfort, dignity and safety.
Croydon Health Services has 10 operating theatres in its main suite, and four theatres in the Day Surgery Unit.
The unit combines medical and multi-disciplinary healthcare personnel e.g. surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses, theatre practitioners, healthcare assistants and orderlies in delivering a high standard of comprehensive patient care to those who require operative procedures during their hospital stay.
The suite promotes a culture of safe and evidence-based practice that is monitored to meet:
- Expectations of our patients
- Compliance with regulations and statutory registration bodies
All staff are required to attend mandatory courses to maintain their skills and encouraged to attend courses relevant to their work to update their knowledge.
We carry out more than 23,000 operations a year, of which around 15,000 are day-cases.
The Medical Services
The Operating Room Suite has medical input from the surgical, medical and anaesthetic departments, other departments within the Trust and St George’s hospital.
