About us
The dermatology department comprises of consultant dermatologists, team of specialty doctors, clinical assistants and experienced specialist dermatology nurses to provide comprehensive care to patients.
The team treat a wide range of dermatological disease and conditions in adults and children affecting the skin, hair and nails. GPs may refer patients with rashes, infections, lesions and suspected skin cancer to Croydon for specialist treatment.
The service is based at Croydon University Hospital and works closely with the maxillo-facial surgery and plastic surgeons at Croydon University Hospital and St George’s Hospital.
Treatment
The dermatology department has two surgical theatres, a Mohs lab (for skin cancer surgery) and phototherapy (light therapy) unit.
There is a rapid diagnostic and treatment service for patients with suspected skin cancer and skin cancer nurse specialists to make sure it is caught early and there is on-going support and continuity of care.
The department offers a range of comprehensive dermatology treatments including:
- Phototherapy
- Skin patch testing
- Skin surgery
- Mohs micrographic surgery
- Paediatric dermatology clinic
- Iontophoresis service
We also work in partnership with the Croydon GP Collaborative who run a Dermatology clinic (CroyDerm) at Purley War Memorial Hospital.

Service overview
The Dermatology Department has its own dedicated clinical area and is situated on the second floor of the Yellow zone, Woodcroft wing. The teams treat a full range of general dermatology conditions affecting the skin, hair and nails in adults and children. This includes all skin rashes, lesions and malignancies.
The team comprises of a number of full time consultant dermatologists, a full time specialty doctor, a team of clinical assistants together with a group of experienced specialist dermatology nurses and administrative staff.
Facilities include consulting rooms, day treatment facilities, two surgical theatres a Mohs lab (skin cancer surgery) and a phototherapy unit (PUVA and TL-01).

- Combined skin cancer clinic with maxillofacial surgeons
- Skin cancer multidisciplinary team meetings
- Paediatric dermatology clinic
- Photo monitoring clinic
- Iontophoresis service
- Nurse-led teaching clinics
The service works closely with the maxillofacial department and plastic surgeons at St George’s Hospital.
Skin cancer MDT meetings are held fortnightly and the service is supported by a skin cancer specialist nurse.
The service has close links with the St John’s Institute of Dermatology, based at Guy’s and St Thomas’s NHS Foundation Trust. The Institute is an internationally recognised centre of excellence for the treatment, research and teaching of skin disease. Complex cases are referred for specialist second opinions.

What do I do if I haven’t received my appointment yet?

What do I do if I want to change or cancel an appointment?
To cancel and rearrange any appointment or tests, please email us email using the enquiry form below.
What should I bring to my appointment?
Please bring a list of your medications, and copies of any blood test results or letters from your GP.
What time should I arrive for my appointment?
Please arrive 10 minutes before your appointment time. If you arrive late for your appointment the clinician may not be able to see you. For telephone appointments, please be available to take our call one hour either side of your appointment time.
How will I know if my appointment is on the telephone or face to face?
You will receive an appointment letter which explains whether you should or should not come to the hospital for your appointment. You will also receive a reminder text message.
What should I do if I need clinical advice before my next appointment?
Our clinicians are only able to offer clinical advice during an appointment. We will not be able to answer any questions regarding clinical care, or offer any advice by phone or email. If you need clinical advice, please email us to book an appointment with your Dermatologist.
What should I do if I need to contact the department urgently?
For any urgent matters, please call us on 020 8401 3780. Please bear in mind we take a very large number of calls each day and the wait time to have your call answered can be long. We do ask that patients only call the department when the matter is urgent.
