Mike Bell reappointed as Chairman of the Trust

NHS Improvement has confirmed that Mike Bell has been reappointed as Chairman of Croydon Health Services NHS Trust for a further four years.
Mike was first joined as Chairman of the Trust in 2013 and has since helped steer the organisation to make continued improvements in its care and performance.
Under his leadership, the Trust has formed new alliances with GPs, commissioners, mental health services, the local authority and the voluntary sector to join-up services for people in the borough. These changes are intended to deliver real benefits for the local community, with a focus on helping people stay well, in addition to providing expert care and treatment when it is needed.
Mike Bell said:
“Croydon Health Services has a huge responsibility to ensure we are delivering first-class care. I am honoured and delighted to continue as Chair, to build on what has achieved so far and always strive to improve further.
“Through the Best Start programme for the under 5s and new GP hubs, we are striving to make it easier to access the right care and to provide more coordinated care and support.
“As part of our ‘One Croydon’ health and care alliance, we have also set up six new Integrated Community Networks (ICNs) for people aged over 65. Made up of GPs, community nurses, pharmacists, social workers and Personal Independence Co-ordinators (or PICs) with Age UK Croydon, these networks are helping to tackle the wider issues that can affect someone’s health, including loneliness and mobility problems and as well as access to healthcare services.
“All of these changes are intended to help us provide excellent care for all, and to help people in our community lead longer, healthier lives.”
Flying the flag for Croydon on a national scale, Mike Bell has led a ‘think tank’ of clinicians and senior leaders across health and social care to look at ways in which services could meet the needs of an ageing and growing population.
The “2,000 days report” (published Nov 2017) included examples of how Croydon Health Services is transforming the way it works to deliver more person-centred, timely and high-quality care.
Mike Bell adds:
“Believing in our staff is the way we are delivering lasting improvements at the Trust. Through Listening into Action – our way of empowering staff to make the changes they want to see – we have seen a 29 per cent improvement in staff feeling valued for the contribution they make. This is now the way we do things at the Trust and we will continue to listen to our staff and patients to make the changes they suggest in the months and years ahead.”
Mike’s next term of office will start on 1 January 2018 and end on 31 December 2021. His salary is included in the Trust’s annual report and accounts here.
