A to Z of services

Croydon integrated continence service comprises of a multidisciplinary team of Consultants, Doctors, Nurse Consultant, Specialist Nurses and Administrative staff. We offer comprehensive service for individuals with bladder and bowel dysfunction.

The Orchid Suite provides a nurse led service for adults with bladder and/or bowel dysfunction. Referrals are triaged and patients are seen in the appropriate clinic by the right professional, at the right time and in the right place. Outpatient clinics are available at Croydon University Hospital and Purley War Memorial Hospital. 

As part of the integrated continence service there is also a community continence service based at Parkway Health Centre in New Addington and comprises of a Nurse Consultant in bladder and bowel dysfunction, Wendy Naish and a Specialist Continence Nurse. Home visits and community clinics are offered by this service.

Clinics include:

• Conservative treatment for overactive bladder and incontinence
• Management of voiding problems
• Recurrent urinary tract infections
• Constipation
• Obstructed defaecation
• Irritable bowel syndrome
• Faecal incontinence
• Trial without catheter (TWOC) clinic.
• Joint Pelvic Floor clinic for females with bladder and Bowel dysfunction

Referral criteria

Patients need to be mobile or can transfer unaided from their wheelchair to attend any of the clinics in The Orchid Suite. For patients that are housebound, have poor mobility, cannot transfer from a wheelchair unaided or require hoisting are seen by the continence team in the community.

Referral guidelines

We provide a nurse-led continence service for adults with bladder and/or bowel dysfunction. Continence services are provided from the Orchid Suite which is based in Croydon University Hospital and Purley War Memorial Hospital.

Patients with bladder and/or bowel dysfunction problems such as urinary incontinence, voiding problems recurrent urine infections, TWOC, constipation or faecal incontinence, can be referred to our nurse-led service for further assessment via the following.
