About us

The Diabetic Retinal Screening Service covers a diabetic population of more than 16,000 people.

The aim of the service is to reduce the risk of sight loss amongst people with diabetes by the prompt identification and effective treatment if necessary of sight threatening diabetic retinopathy.

The screening process is quick and simple and uses the latest digital cameras.  After the appointment results are sent to the patient and the GP and if necessary onward referral to the hospital eye service.

DRSS (diabetic retinopathy screening service) offers a quick identification of diabetic retinopathy and effective treatment to prevent loss of sight in diabetic patients.

The screening process is quick and simple using the state-of–the-art digital cameras. 

Screening is offered at Croydon University Hospital and Purley War Memorial Hospital.

Requests and results

Refer using established electronic referral systems.

Or fax completed referral form to DRSS on 020 8401 3699.

Test results are sent to both the patient and GP, and onward referral is made to Moorfields South at Croydon if further investigation or treatment is necessary.
